Another Great Video with Thakur and Our Group

April 17th, 2010  |  Published in Blog  |  No Comments

This is a wonderful video clip of Thakur talking to us as he did on almost every night we were in Kolkata with him on many visits. We were a mixed group of Australians and New Zealanders. His loving informality and attention to each of us all individually were always a feature, and wonderfully awakening. You will see Swami Krishna, another Master who was influential in Ken’s and Elizabeth’s awakening, sitting down near the front in the early part of the clip.

Great Video of Thakur

Thakur – Shree Shree Thakur Balak Brahmachari to give his full title and name – was very significant in Ken’s and Elizabeth’s awakening processes. He, Elizabeth and groups of people ranging from 20 to 50 visited every year from 1982 to the early 1990s. He had a radiant presence and simply being with him touched us deeply and catalysed our awakening.

An Extraordinary Tale of an Ordinary Bloke – John Hofton

This is the extraordinary tale of an `ordinary bloke’ as Ken Mellor describes himself, in his book, `Urban Mystic’.

This is a great read: I savoured … this book the way one leaves the best part of the meal until last, taking in one chapter at a time, digesting it and awaiting the inspiration that would come from each one. Read the rest of this entry »

An Intense Read – Nicola Woolley

… this book had me from the start.

Short episodes unfold to illustrate universal themes – in sequence but not chronologically. So I was not weighed down by needless background and kept wanting to know more.

The writer has kept his open and generous approach to life, and humans, through some tough challenges and potentially diverting experiences of intense pleasure. How did he do this?

How does each of us do this? [While] there is no single path to enlightenment, … I believe this book succeeds in lighting the way for the reader – whatever their direction.

My dear Ken, what a great read! I spent the week-end curled up with “Urban Mystic” – a truly facinating insight into your life. Thank you for sharing it so beautifully.

I Absolutely Loved this Book – Tony Smark

I read it in two sittings, but only because I needed to sleep. Fortunately my wife was away for a few days and I was able to read all day and night. I loved Ken Mellor’s easy to read and at times gripping writing style and the way he so eloquently described his awakening process. The book is not only thoroughly entertaining and page-turning, but it also provides the reader with a blueprint for how an ordinary person can go about accessing his or her own divinity.

A Moving Personal Account – Mark Davis

Ken Mellor has a well established international reputation as a teacher, writer, meditation Master and therapist. This moving, personal and always entertaining account of the mystical journey of an ‘ordinary’ [bloke] … is an inspiring account of the possibilities available to us all.

I enjoyed the openness and humour with which the author shared his experiences, and the frankness with which he disclosed his human struggles … Throughout is revealed a resolute integrity and a special determination to be fully Himself, [which] is catalytic in its effect on the reader. My heart was opened as [Ken’s] journey penetrates into the most refined and expanded aspects of what it is to be a human being. I strongly recomend this book to all travellers on the Path.

Making a start!

Welcome to my Urban Mystic webpage blog, not that there’s much here yet. In fact, the site is so underdeveloped right now that I hesitated about getting started with blogging you. Then I thought it’s a good idea because your involvement will encourage me to fill in the other areas. So I decided I could make a start by telling you some of what I intend to put in here.

  1. I’ll give you a much better description of the book. From the feedback I’ve already had, it’s compelling reading, even for people who don’t know me.
  2. You’ll be able to see and download the introduction.
  3. A link will appear so you can buy the book directly from this site, and
  4. I’ll put in some of the reviews I’ve got. I guess you realise I’ll favour the ones that favour the book!

Well, that’s it for now. Let me know what you think about this small beginning. Ken
